Key Points

Kenya generally allows the importation of used passenger vehicles that are up to 8 years old (currently 2019 and newer, based on the vehicle’s first registration date). All imported passenger vehicles must be Right-Hand Drive (RHD) and pass a KEBS-approved Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) inspection before shipment.

Most agricultural, construction, and industrial machinery is exempt from Kenya’s 8-year vehicle age limit. This includes equipment such as tractors, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, graders, forklifts, harvesters, and other heavy machinery.

Long-distance commercial trucks (3.5–30 tonnes GVM) and prime movers are subject to stricter regulations and are generally limited to 3 years old, in accordance with current import requirements.

While these machines are not restricted by model year, they must still comply with KEBS Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) and pass the required mechanical, safety, and environmental inspections before shipment.
